CASE STUDY • GDEX

Malaysia's express logistics leader, modernised on AWS.

GD Express (GDEX) is one of Malaysia’s leading express delivery and logistics companies. Founded in 1997 and headquartered in Petaling Jaya, GDEX is listed on Bursa Malaysia and runs a nationwide network of more than 500 service points covering every state, with a growing presence across Southeast Asia.

At the heart of the business is OneGDEX — the digital platform behind shipment booking, tracking, payments, label printing, partner integrations and customer updates. It handles thousands of shipments every day.

THE CHALLENGE

A platform every delivery depends on — with no safety net.

OneGDEX ran in a single location on Microsoft Azure with no high-availability safety net, so one failure could stop the platform that every delivery depends on. GDEX was also paying fixed platform fees and premium database licensing around the clock — whether or not the capacity was used.

During Chinese New Year, year-end and big promotions, the team had to scale up by hand to keep up.

The board made a strategic call: move to AWS.
And it had to happen without disrupting a single day of deliveries.

What was holding GDEX back

VSTECS KU is an AWS Partner and one of Malaysia’s leading ICT companies. Founded in 1985 and listed on Bursa Malaysia, VSTECS is part of a regional network spanning nine countries. VSTECS KU guided GDEX through the full migration journey — from early planning to go-live and beyond.

THE ARCHITECTURE

How AWS reshaped the OneGDEX platform.

Each part of OneGDEX moved to a modern, fully managed AWS service — so the platform scales itself,
costs less when idle, and ships new features without downtime.

Auto-scaling portals

Customer portals run on containers that add and remove capacity automatically as traffic changes.

Serverless background tasks

Background jobs run on serverless functions that cost nothing when idle.

Managed, highly available database

The database runs on a managed service spread across multiple data centres.

Real-time visibility

Built-in monitoring gives the team live insight into platform health.

Zero-downtime releases

An automated pipeline ships new features without downtime — and rolls back instantly if needed.

Secure by design

Enterprise-grade security and governance built into the platform from day one.

THE BUSINESS IMPACT

Technology that tracks how the business actually performs.

From fixed cost to flexible.

Spend now tracks real business performance instead of always-on fees.

No more peak-season firefighting.

Faster, lower-risk features.

New capabilities reach customers quicker and more safely.

Ready for the next stage of growth.

A scalable foundation for new digital services and data-driven decisions across the delivery network.
